BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE PHOTO-SHOOT

Angela:
This was a long day and night before preparing everything for the shoot. All weekend I was dyeing fabric, sewing, picking petals, spray painting shoes and making up more story boards to help direct the shoot. There was so much to do to make sure Aaron and myself could capture the right images to tell our story and one of the worst thins that could happen the day before the shoot did. One of the original models feel sick! Leaving me with 12 hours to find a replacement suitable enough to place the part of The Royal Minion. Luckily I found the right guy, Ezeugo Gary aka thestyleguru of instagram.

The day of the photo-shoot...

PROP MAKING THE CROWNS READY FOR THE PHOTO-SHOOT

Angela:
So now I have finally got round to making props!! The photo-shoot is this Monday 13th May 2013, so the time is coming soon. These were really fun to make and pretty straight forward. I decided to use inspiration from the a fast food chain (I can't name), were you got crowns as a kid. They were so cool back then and after making a dummy crown out of card and photographing it, I thought it good on camera, so I proceeded to make my own....

Luckily at uni we have a couple of laser cutters, so I was able to make a clean symmetrical pattern in illustrator within no time. The laser cutter cut out the pattern perfectly and then I moved on the spray painting them both sides, and adding flowers for the Queen.

LOCATION LOCATION: THE FAIRY TALE PHOTO-SHOOT

Angela:
According to Aaron this is one of the most important parts to a photo-shoot and it took us a while to come up with the final location for the shoot. Originally we thought it would be a great idea to take the photo-shoot in the woods.

"I think that shooting images in the woods adds drama and mystery to the photos. It's almost like entering into your own world, one away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life," Aaron Semhar.

Unfortunately the closest one was too far and with funding for the shoot being next to nothing, was almost impossible to do. We had to come up with another plan. The story was almost set and we needed to find a place that was fairy tale like and enchanting. This is when we came across The Holy Trinity Church, right in the city centre of Coventry....

These are our test shots taken today at the church. We were lucky enough to be there on a lovely sunny day, so the natural sun light was shinning through the stained glass windows. The whole place was gleaming!

"I WANT TO CREATE A FAIRY TALE"

Angela:
Working along side Aaron my fashion photographer, showed me I had a lot to learn about fashion photography and photography in general. He introduced me to many photographers work (not just in fashion) and showed me the variation they come in, some of which I never heard of before and opened my eyes into new ways of thinking. There were many big inspirations; Kirsty Mitchell, Ruven Afanador and Annie Leibovitz to name a few. So after much time, thought and a lot of research I finally decided how I wanted the conceptual photo-shoot to be.

I wanted to create a fairy tale or a short story much like any fantasy book you read when you were a child. It had to be a love story with romance and it had to also include somebody not belonging in the place it was set, it had to have scandal in it and it had to be dramatic but very beautiful!

THINKING ABOUT STREET SHOTS AND CONCEPTUAL FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY

Angela:
This is the research I've taken into fashion photography. I've looked into two totally different directions of fashion photography, one being for on-line promotion and the other off-line. Both of them interested me so much I couldn't hold one back. So my photographer Aaron and I are going to produce both.

Street Shots taken in New York City are going to be a big inspiration after looking into Photographer Artist's Stada Colon and Tyreik Prentice found on 'WGSN'. They are gaining huge recognition and respect for their current work and are showing a unique take on what street shots can be.

Conceptual Fashion Photography in general in a big inspiration. It lets you make up a world around fashion that isn't real. A lot of thought goes into conceptual photography, much like writing a non-fictional book, everything you create is made up so you have to think out side the box of reality and step into a fantasy world.

FINDING A FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER

Angela:
After choosing what direction I wanted to go into and knowing how I wanted to promote my brand and the fashion I sell within the store, the next step could only be to source a fashion photographer. He/she would have to have a passionate, motivated and excited drive about their work. They would have to be a bit crazy, open minded to new ideas, have a few of their own ideas as well as be open to mine. This is when I found Aaron. (Or more like I saved his contact details earlier in the year because I saw his work and loved every photo and concept he created).

Luckily he agreed to work with me!

So the collaboration began....

TARGET MARKET, IN-STORE VISUALS AND ON-LINE PROMOTION

Angela:
Target Market: The Youth Culture of Today
Before I could go anywhere with this project I had to chose a market which I would target so I could then create products for and promote to. After not so much thought, I guessed I would work on what I knew best and design garments and promote towards "YOUTH CULTURE."

This is my favourite market to work with at the moment as it's full of open minded, fun, youthful living. The youth culture today like to absorb all joys in life, music, art, fashion, social media, gaming, food, travel, clubbing, concerts, festival-ism and love to be involved with whatever is THE BUZZ OF NOW.

These days, this market hasn't got an age limit, as the young are growing faster intellectually and the older are curious about THE WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY. This market is going to be exciting to work for and to be apart of this GROWING CULT will be amazing.

In-Store Visuals:
Here are pages from my sketch book looking into the current trend of typography interlinked with music. This is an idea I pitched to the store, to see the Vinyl Section of Windsor's and Refreshed covered in typography of everybody's favourite lyric's by music artist's of their time. Cool and edgy and you will entering a world surrounded by everything to do with music.

IF YOU LIKE THE SOUND OF MY IDEA, PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT HERE, TO SEE IF WE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Plans on On-line Promotion:

Please leave your comments with your opinion about how the store should promote themselves or what you think about current plans for the store....
